Cropping to a square or a 16:9 banner usually means chopping equal amounts off each side and hoping the important part survives. No. The analysis and the crop both happen inside your browser, and a content security policy the browser enforces stops this page sending anything to another domain. You can watch the network panel while you use it and see that no request carries your image.

Usually because the detail is spread evenly, which happens with landscapes, patterns and busy scenes. When no single region stands out the tool says so rather than pretending to be confident, and that is the moment to crop it by hand.
Cropping removes pixels but does not re-compress the ones it keeps any more than saving the file normally would. The output keeps the source resolution within the cropped area, and the format is preserved where your browser can encode it.
