WebP is already an efficient format, but files exported from design tools are often saved at near-maximum quality. Re-encoding at a sensible quality level usually removes a large share of the file size with no visible change.
This tool accepts WebP files. Everything is decoded by your own browser, so the formats available depend on what your browser can open - which for HEIC in particular varies between Safari and other browsers.
Because the image is rebuilt from raw pixels, EXIF metadata such as camera details, timestamps and GPS coordinates does not carry into the result. Orientation is applied to the pixels first, so photographs stay the right way up. Embedded colour profiles are also dropped and the output is saved as sRGB, which can shift colours slightly in wide-gamut photographs. Animated files are refused rather than being flattened to a single frame.
No. The WebP is decoded and re-encoded locally. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel before dropping a file in: whatever you do to the image, no request ever carries it. You may see one small anonymous event recording that this tool was used; it names the tool and contains no part of your file.

Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel and it is carried through compression, so cut-out images and logos keep their transparent background.
If the file was already saved at a moderate quality, there is little left to remove, and re-compressing mostly costs detail rather than bytes. Check the size comparison the tool shows before downloading - if the saving is small, keep the original.
Every current browser does, including Safari from version 14. If you need to support very old browsers, convert to JPG instead.
No. Animated WebP files are detected and refused rather than being flattened to their first frame, which would silently destroy the animation. Use a dedicated animation tool for those. Still WebP images are unaffected.
