Check a photo against New Zealand's visa and NZeTA requirements
Immigration New Zealand publishes an unusual pair of file rules for a visa or NZeTA photo: JPEG, and between 512KB and 3.14MB.
The floor is the part that catches people, because most systems only set a ceiling and a photo compressed for email drops straight under it. They state no pixel dimensions at all, so those two figures are what can be measured here - and since they also prohibit altering the photo with AI or digital editing tools, measuring is all this page does.

Immigration New Zealand states a JPG or JPEG file between 512 KB and 3.14 MB, on a background that is neutral and plain showing only you. They publish no pixel dimensions for it, which is why this page checks the file size and the format and says so rather than inventing a size.
My NZeTA photo is under 512 KB. What should I do?
Go back to the original rather than trying to make this file bigger. A file below the floor has usually been compressed or scaled for something else - email, a messaging app - and re-saving it larger adds bytes without adding back the detail that was discarded. Immigration New Zealand also prohibits digital alteration, so inflating it here would be the wrong fix twice over.
Can I use AI to fix my New Zealand visa photo?
Immigration New Zealand says no, in those words: you cannot manipulate or digitally alter your photo using artificial intelligence or other digital editing tools. This page will assess what it can see in the photograph if you ask it to, and it will never change the photograph - those are different things, and the second is the one they prohibit.
Is my photo uploaded when this page checks it?
No. The file is measured in your browser and nothing is produced, so your photograph is not sent anywhere. If you choose the optional AI assessment, the page names the provider and the exact size of the copy before anything leaves.
